Now, have fun comparing the MMB rehersal wear from one decade to the next. Below is a photo Dick Gaskill recently added to his web site. Note length of shorts and complete lack of hoodies. Dick G's notes on this photo: "This HS school view was at Sturgis Michigan in 1978.
Drum Major =Guy Bordo. Probably Sept 22n d 1978 on our way to Notre Dame? Michigan won that by the way: 28-14. Don't recall where we stayed overnight but it was probably at Sturgis with HS Band Parent's."

Starting Out with Some Favorites

A couple of years ago I set up Google News to report on any articles about the MMB. In the Fall are there a number of them. But I found out something else which is that people write things about the Michigan Marching Band all the time -- in their blogs. I've been wishing for a place to put links to these. Didn't find a place so I made one - this blog.

SO to start, here are some of my favorites!

CAPTAIN PICARD MEETS THE MICHIGAN BAND

It all started a couple of years ago when I saw in the MMB e-newsletter that Patrick Stewart was going to conduct the band at halftime. I found a TON of stuff about this.

A photo of Stewart standing on the conductor's ladder was even on the BBC home page (unfortunately all that showed of the band was the top of a plume, but it was a good photo anyway.) My favorite comment was from a British guy who posted a link to this photo on his science fiction fan site, with the note: "I don't know what Patrick Stewart was doing on a ladder at an American football game, but he looks like he's having a great time!"

The Star Trek official fan site still has news about this here.

CUTE KID!

Meet Riley. A young man who wanted to "be the band" for Halloween, and his awesome parents who made his wish come true.

ALUMNI

And, this is Angelina. MMB alum and M graduate who mentioned she would not be there to watch her old band-mates sweating out band week. Because she was going to be in Africa in the Peace Corps. She has an amazing adventure blog as you might imagine. But her Sept 2009 post has MMB photos.

Welcome!

Hi! Jane Namenye here. I don't have my horn or my camera with me at the moment, but I do have the World Wide Web! So, this will be a place where I'm going to be posting news, links and anything else I can dig up about the University of Michigan Bands -- all of them. University of Michigan Marching Band, Symphony Band and all the rest. And, probably stuff about bands and music in general too.

So, I'm off to search for some interesting things to put here!
